MASTERCLASS ON THE REPERTORY OF XX AND XXI CENTURY

Individual lessons with particular (but not exclusive) focus on less traditional repertoire for guitar. In the lessons is also addressed the repertoire less distant from the traditional language, that with tolerance, can be defined neoclassical.

SIGN IN '900

A lecture-concert on the signs of contemporary music; the conference is about the relationship between graphic, musical meaning and expressive and instrumental gesture. During the conference are performed live examples from pieces for guitar and guitar shown on the realization of the main signs used by the repertoire of our time. The conference is based on the book edited by Arturo Tallini, Music Uncertain, Ut Orpheus Bologna.

GIACINTO SCELSI, MUSIC OF ANOTHER WORLD

The music of Giacinto Scelsi, ‘music born without thinking’, improvisation becomes composition: a brilliant composer, outside of any fee, which gave the guitar repertoire a song as Ko-Tha, tops the instrumental virtuosity , projecting our tool in a mystical dimension and mythological. The conference is conducted as long a hidden wire, from reading some lines from The Dream 101, and is held together with full implementation of Ko-.Tha, three dances of Shiva Guitar treated as a percussion instrument.

NIGHT SOUNDS, TRAVEL IN THE ONIRICO

Formal analysis and listening to live music by G. Petrassi, seen as a journey into the dream world: in this song, the music, according to the hypothesis of Tallini, describes the transformation of the human daylight in a dream, the world of our unconscious .

SERENADE FOR SATELLITE, OR THE OPEN FORM

The famous song by Bruno Maderna, becomes a journey in improvisation, which leads students to build, through improvisation guided by the teacher, sound worlds and imaginary sound rich and varied. Parts of the track are sent in advance to the teachers and pupils.

Four Keywords for a didactics

=

AWARENESS

Always be aware of what happens when you put in the score and report their intentions interpretation.

=

IDEA GESTURE

Everything we do on the guitar part from the idea that we are made by observing the score. The idea is transformed into sound, gesture, fingering, choice of phrasing.

=

LOOK

Most of the obstacles in the play derived from a partial look: you focus on a single detail of the play losing sight of the whole. Often just change the way we think a step because the problem solves.

=

SONG INSIDE

Get to play as much as possible so similar to how we sing: I think it’s the key to feel that what we do is really the result of what a score conveys.

Training and development

Teaching applied Arturo Tallini

APPROACH

As a first approach to consider fundamental ask my students what are its needs, its weaknesses and its strengths, in order to start with a full path of learning and improvement.

METHOD

Enhance the strengths of the student and addressing its shortcomings considering them not so much as defects but as places in which the knowledge is still not deep enough.

RESULTS

I was told that my students play each one in a different way; another time it was observed that when they sit on the stage is as if to say “here, now I’ll listen to what I have to say about this music.” I think these two phrases reflect well on my way of thinking about teaching.
